BCL attack leaves Junaid Saki, 7 others injured

Activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) of Chattogram Medical College unit allegedly attacked Junaid Saki and his co-activists while he was leaving the hospital after visiting the patients injured in the fire at BM Container Depot in Sitakunda upazila of Chattogram.

The incident occurred at 6:00pm.

According to eye witnesses, a group of BCL activists chanting Joy Bangla slogan, launched an attack on Junaid Saki and a few others.

Saki, who is also the chief coordinator of Ganosamhati Andolon, suffered injuries on his nose and one of his hands, our Chattogram staff correspondent reports quoting witnesses.

Acknowledging the attack, BCL activist Asif Bin Taki who is a fifth year MBBS student of CMC claimed that a BCL faction loyal to the deputy minister of education is responsible for attack.

"At present, CMC BCL is divided into two factions -- one loyal to former city mayor AJM Nasir Uddin and other loyal to the Deputy Minister of education Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel. I belong to the first faction," he said.

CMCH Director Brig Gen Shamim Ahsan could not be reached over phone for his comments despite repeated attempts.
