Former AL leader Tipu murder suspect Musa brought back from Oman

Bangladesh Police have brought Sumon Sikdar Musa, a key suspect in the murder case of Motijheel Awami League leader Jahidul Islam Tipu and college student Samia Afrin Priti, back from Oman on Thursday morning.

Three police officials landed at Hazrat Shah Jalal International Airport with Musa by a flight from Oman at about 11:00am, said DMP Detective Branch deputy commissioner for Motijheel division Rifat Rahman Shamim.

On the night of March 24, Motijeel Awami League leader Zahidul Islam Tipu, who was in a microbus, and Samia Afrin Priti, a 22-year-old college student, who was returning home by a rickshaw, were killed in indiscriminate firing in front of Islami Bank Hospital.

Tipu was former general secretary of the AL’s Motijheel committee and Priti was a student of Begum Badrunnesa Government College. Tipu’s driver was also injured in the firing.

The next day, a case was filed against unidentified people over the double murder.

Musa, who left Bangladesh for Dubai in the United Arab Emirates days before the murder of Tipu, coordinated the murder, according to the Rapid Action Battalion.

An Interpol red notice was also issued against Musa after the murder.
