AL dubs budget people-oriented, business-friendly

Ruling Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader on Thursday said that the proposed national budget for 2022-23 fiscal year was people-oriented and business-friendly.

Obaidul, also the road, transport and bridges minister, made the remark while speaking to reporters after leaving the budget session of the parliament.

‘There is certainty in this budget. Social security coverage has been increased… by Tk 7,000 crore than before,’ he said.

Considering all aspects, the issues of lower and middle class people have been taken into consideration, Obaidul said.

‘So it’s a budget for the poor people. This is also a business-friendly budget and a people-oriented budget. This budget is for recovering from the economic impact of Covid-19,’ he added.

On Thursday, finance minister AHM Mustafa Kamal placed a Tk 6,78,064 crore proposed national budget for the 2022-23 financial year in Jatiya Sangsad with the major challenge of reining in inflation amid unfavourable global economic situation.

The budget is titled Return to the Path of Development; Leaving the Covid-19 Behind.
