“EC’s letter to me out of its jurisdiction”: MP Bahar

Cumilla-6 Awami League lawmaker AKM Bahauddin Bahar today said that the letter (asking him to leave the election area) Election Commission gave to him was "out of its jurisdiction".

"Our leader (Prime Minister) wants a fair election. I want it here too. The law is equal for everyone. I felt very sad when an election commissioner said that I have violated the law. But how did I violate the law?" the lawmaker asked.

He came up with the reaction after casting his vote at Victoria Collegiate High School polling centre during Cumilla city election around noon today (June 15, 2022).

"The EC's letter was not even correct. In the case of a member of parliament, the instruction cannot be given in this way. Also, the letter is unfinished. There is no complete explanation of the law in the letter. So, we need to talk about the law in the parliament. We will amend the law, InshAllah," he said.

The EC must first comply with the election law, he added.

Earlier in the day, independent candidate Monirul Haque Sakku (recently expelled from BNP) alleged that MP Bahar had violated the electoral code of conduct.

The EC on June 8 issued a letter to MP Bahauddin asking him to leave his constituency.
