Sudhakar Dalela could be the next Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh: Report

India's incumbent Deputy Chief of Mission in the US, Sudhakar Dalela – a 1993 batch Indian Foreign Service officer – is expected to be the country's next High Commissioner to Bangladesh, replacing Vikram K Doraiswami, Hindustan Times reported today.

Doraiswami is expected to be appointed India's new high commissioner to the United Kingdom, it said.

Doraiswami has served as Indian ambassador to Uzbekistan, South Korea and served in the US as well as private secretary to the Prime Minister, reports our New Delhi correspondent.

Doraiswami will replace Gaitri Issar Kumar, who was superannuated on June 30, 2022, as the high commissioner to the UK.

Dalela has vast experience as Director (Prime Minister's Office) focusing on India's engagement with its South Asian neighbours and he was Joint Secretary handling Bhutan and Nepal when the Doklam standoff with China had erupted in August 2017, the Hindustan Times report added.

Doraiswami has been central to India's close relationship with Bangladesh, as he is credited with pushing for cementing ties through infrastructure and defence cooperation.
