Minister: Eid trip tickets now readily available online

Admitting that online train ticket sales were poorly handled during Eid-ul-Fitr, Railways Minister Nurul Islam Sujan said that Eid holidaymakers managed to purchase tickets online this time around.

“So far, we have not received any complaints from anywhere about our online system. Many managed to purchase tickets,” he said at a program held at Kamalapur Railway Station on Saturday.

He further noted that the number of trains is way less than the demand. “Over 200,000 people stand in queues for only 6,000 tickets available at the counters. 60 million people hit the website to purchase tickets every day.”

Hence, he said, it is not possible that everyone will manage to buy tickets. “Not only do we need more trains, but also a larger infrastructural capacity.”

Referring to train tickets as the main demand of the travellers this Eid, the railways minister said: "A special train is available for garment workers this Eid. Tickets for this train have been arranged in Joydevpur."

This year, ticket sales at the railway stations will continue till 4pm daily.

The advance tickets for July 6, 7, 8 and 9 will be available on July 2, 3, 4 and 5, respectively.

On the other hand, the sale of return tickets will begin on July 7. The return tickets for July 11, 12, 13, 14 and 15 will be available on July 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11, respectively.

Each passenger is eligible to buy a maximum of four tickets.

The advance tickets will be sold till 4pm daily at Kamalapur, Kamalapur suburban platform, Airport Railway Station, Tejgaon Railway Station, Cantonment, Fulbaria (Old Railway Station) — and six places in Joydevpur.
