RAB: Henolux owners lured Gazi Anis to invest crores

Two days ago, a former Bangladesh Chhatra League leader, failing to retrieve money invested in Henolux Group died after setting himself on fire in front of the National Press Club. Following his death, police on Wednesday arrested Henolux Group Managing Director Md Nurul Amin and his wife Director Fatema Amin for abetting suicide.

Nurul Amin and his wife lured deceased businessman Gazi Anis and convinced him to invest Tk1.26 crore in the company, according to Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).

RAB Public Relations and Media wing chief Khandaker Al Moin disclosed the matter during a media call on Wednesday.

Gazi Anis, after investing Tk1 crore, borrowed money from relatives as well, after being assured of hefty profit percentage from the Henolux group managing director and wife.

He met Nurul Amin and his wife in 2017 and they gradually formed a friendship. In 2018, they had gone to a neighbouring country for treatment and staying at the same hotel.

“It was there that Nurul prompted the victim to invest Henolux Group,” said the senior RAB official.

Out of respect for their relationship, they did not have any official agreement. Even after the victim (Gazi Anis) kept requesting the accused to prepare an agreement they kept delaying,” he added.

At one point the accused stopped giving the profit and also harassed and threatened the victim. Currently, the accused owe the victim over Tk3 crore including profits.

In a bid to get his money Gazi Anis filed two cases with a Kushtia court. He also held a media call at National Press Club on May 29 over the matter and on May 31 posted on his Facebook wall, seeking the assistance of his friends.

According to the case documents, the day he set himself on fire, the accused were supposed to pay him. However, when he called them, they declined to pay.

Angered and frustrated, he went to the National Press Club on Monday and set himself on fire. He succumbed to his injuries the next morning.

Following his death his older brother Nazrul Islam filed a case with Shahbag Police after which police arrested the husband-wife duo.

“Nurul Amin said that he paid the victim Tk78 lakh through cheques and cash. However, there is a discrepancy between the victim’s and accused’s accounts which the investigators will probe,” said Moin.

The victim, Gazi Anis was contractor by profession and worked at a telecom company. He later quit the job and started a car dealership in Kushtia.

Meanwhile, the arrestee Nurul Amin worked at a company named Kader Homeo Hall for 15 years starting in 1998.

In 1991 he established Henolux Group. Later the name was changed to Amin Manufacturing Company under which products such as Henolux Complexion Cream and other cosmetic items were manufactured.

In 2019, they started another business by the name Amin Herbal when the demand for Henolux fell in 2009. In 2016 they shut down Henolux for good.

On the other hand, Fatema Amin currently looks after Amin Herbal as the director of Amin Manufacturing. In her earlier days she used to work as a homeopathic doctor at Amin Homeo Hall.
