The authorities of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate on Thursday arrested a passenger of a plane with 12 pieces of gold bars worth Tk 90 lakh at Chattogram Shah Amanat International Airport in the port city.
The Customs intelligence authorities with the help of the National Security Intelligence arrested the passenger, said officials.
The arrested is Mohammed Mijan Uddin, son of Nur Mohammed of Manikpur of Kanchanpur under Fatikchhari in Chattogram, said the directorate's deputy director Sultan Mahmud.
The passenger came with the flight G9-526 of Air Arabia, was from Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates, and it landed at Chattogram Shah Amanat International Airport at 7:15am, he said.
'After arrival, Mohammed Mijan Uddin was going to the washroom at the airport. While officials interrupted him, he tried to hide a bag with him. Later, we found 12 pieces of gold bars inside the bag,' the Customs Intelligence official said.
A case was under process in this regard, he added.
