Dudhkumar, Teesta waters rise further

All the major rivers in the northern region of the country were rising on Wednesday, with the authorities forecasting that the trend would continue for two more days.

On the other hand, all the major rivers in the northeastern region, except for the Khowai River, saw a downturn in the 24 hours till 9am on Wednesday.

No river in the country was flowing over the danger level during the period, the Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC) said, adding that the water levels rose at 74 points out of the 109 monitoring stations of the country.

It said the rivers in Brahmaputra-Jamuna and Ganges-Padma basins were on a rising trend.

The Dudhkumar River was 9cm below the danger level at Pateshwari point in Kurigram at 9am; it rose by 8cm from Tuesday.

The Teesta water rose by 41cm at Dalia of Nilphamari and was flowing 15cm below the danger line.

In the Meghna basin, the Khowai River has risen by 40cm at Ballah point in Chunarughat of Habiganj since Tuesday but was far below the danger line, the FFWC added.
