Police arrested an alleged member of a robbery gang which raped a woman and took away passengers' valuables after taking control of a bus on the Dhaka-Tangail highway on Wednesday.
A team of police arrested Raja Mia (30), driver of local Jhatika Paribahan, from new bus stand area in Tangail early today, said Sarker Mohammad Kaisar, superintendent of Tangail Police.
Raja took the wheels after blindfolding and tying up the driver and others of the Eagle Paribahan bus which was heading towards Narayanganj from Kushtia, the SP said at a press conference at his office today (August 4, 2022).
During primary interrogation, the arrestee disclosed names of his accomplices and police are trying to arrest them, our Tangail correspondent reported quoting the police officer.
Ten to twelve young men, with backpacks, got on the bus at Hatikumrul intersection in Sirajganj around midnight.
They raped a woman and took away all the passengers' valuables and injured many of the passengers with sharp weapons.
