Additional health DG Sabrina Flora’s condition improves further

The health condition of Meerjady Sabrina Flora, additional director general of the Directorate General of Health Services has improved further.

However, she still needs a ventilator to breathe, her family.

They mentioned that doctors are trying to help her breathe naturally, and as her kidney condition has improved, she is now receiving dialysis.

The additional director general’s fever has also come down.

Moreover, the doctors stopped the antibiotic as her blood test showed no bacterial infection.

On Friday, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS ) said Meerjady Sabrina Flora's health had improved in the last two days.

She was diagnosed with acute cholangitis, a pancreatic disease. After undergoing ERCP she developed various complications. ERCP is a technique that combines the use of endoscopy and fluoroscopy to diagnose and treat certain problems of the biliary or pancreatic ductal systems.

She was later receiving dialysis for kidney failure which subsequently resulted in heart failure.

She was put on life support after that.

Dr Flora has been undergoing treatment at National University Hospital in Singapore.

Before being taken to Singapore, she was hospitalized in Dhaka for a few days.

Sabrina Flora, who became known for the Covid-19 briefings when the pandemic first hit, heads the National Technical Advisory Committee on Covid-19.

On August 13, 2020, she was promoted to the post of additional director general of the directorate. Before that, she served as director of the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research.

Dr Flora completed her MBBS from Dhaka Medical College. After that she went on to work at the Bangladesh Medical Research Council and the National Institute of Preventive and Social Medicine. She also has a PhD from the University of Cambridge.
