The government on Saturday increased the daily wage of a tea worker to Tk 170 from Tk 120 amid strike of workers demanding an increase of their daily wages to Tk 300 from Tk 120.
The decision came at a meeting of tea garden owners with prime minister Sheikh Hasina at her official residence Ganabahaban in Dhaka at a time when workers observed indefinite strike pressing for wage hike for the15th consecutive day.
‘The prime minister has given the decision to increase the daily wage of a tea garden worker to Tk 170. Considering other facilities, the amount would be between Tk 450 and Tk 500,’ Prime minister's principal secretary Ahmad Kaikaus told reporters after the meeting.
