Action will be taken if Myanmar continues agitation: Planning Minister

Planning Minister MA Mannan on Wednesday said Bangladesh will be forced to take prompt action if Myanmar continues its agitation along the border.

“Bangladesh is a peaceful nation. We oppose any hostilities. Both inside the nation and at the border, we want peace. However, if Myanmar doesn't stop provoking us, appropriate actions will be taken,” he said.

The planning minister made the remake in response to a question from journalists after visiting various Pujamandaps of Sunamganj's Shantiganj upazila.

The minister said: "Myanmar lacks the courage to act directly against us.

They frequently cause trouble. Our government is acting with the patience we require.

"Bangladesh is prepared to sit down with Myanmar to tackle the fundamental issue. Myanmar, however, is not true to their words,” he added.

Regarding the election, MA Mannan said: "The Election Commission will conduct the poll, the government will not. One particular party blames us unnecessarily. We are also prospective contenders.”
