At least 14 people were killed in incidents due to cyclone Sitrang in Dhaka and five other districts between Monday evening and Tuesday morning, officials said.
Of them, five were killed in Bhola, three in Cumilla, two in Sirajganj and one each was killed in Dhaka, Shariatpur, Barguna and Narail districts.
Bhola district Superintendent of police Saiful Islam said that four people were killed in separate incidents in Sadar, Daulatkhan and Lalmohoin upazilas in his district as trees collapsed one them during Sitrang while another man died as he was washed away in the river.
Cumilla deputy commissioner Quamrul Hasan said that a couple and their minor child were killed in Namgalkoat upazila as a tree collapsed on their thatched house.
Two people were killed in Sadar Upazila in Sirajganj, said fire service official Shahidul Islam.
In Dhaka, a rickshaw puller was killed at Hazaribagh while a wall collapsed on him during heavy rain due to cyclone Sitrang, said Hazaribagh police sub-inspector Ziaur Rahman.
Shariatpur deputy commissioner Parvez Hasan said that one person was killed in Jajira on Monday night.
Narail deputy commissioner Habibur Rahman said that one was killed in his district due to cyclone Sitrang.
At least two people were killed being crushed under trees in Bhola and Barguna.
Bhola police superintendent Saiful Islam confirmed the death of an elderly man in Daulatkhan, while the other death at Sonakhali of Barguna was confirmed by Farhana Yasmin, district relief and rehabilitation officer, Barguna.
Cyclone Sitrang crossed the Barishal-Chattogram coast near Bhola on Monday midnight and weakened rapidly into a depression by giving precipitation, the met office said in its latest bulletin.
Sitrang moved north-northeastwards very fast and completed crossing the Barishal-Chattogram coast, and it now lies over Dhaka-Cumilla-Brahmanbaria and adjoining areas as a land depression, said Bangladesh Meteorological Department.
