Mirsharai dredger capsize: 3 more bodies recovered

Bodies of three more workers, who went missing since Monday night (October 24, 2022) in the Sandwip channel of the Bay of Bengal, were recovered this morning (October 26, 2022)

With this, total four bodies were recovered so far while four others remain still missing, reports our Chattogram staff correspondent.

The eight workers went missing after a dredger sank in the Sandwip channel of the Bay of Bengal in Chattogram's Mirsharai upazila.

The body of Al Amin (20), was found by fellow workers yesterday (October 25, 2022) around 9:00pm yesterday.

At night, the divers of Fire Service and Civil Defence took a break from search operation.

They resumed the operation around 7am today, Mirsharai Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Minhazur Rahaman and Officer-in-charge of Mirsharai Police Station Kabir Hossain said.

The bodies of Imam Mollah (24), Jahidul Islam (22) and Mahmud Mollah (25) were recovered between 9:15am to 9:30am, they said.

China Harbour Engineering Company, which is working to set up the economic zone at Mirsharai, sent a tugboat to the spot to bring the dredger ashore.

Now, the rescuers are waiting for the tide to start the operations, the OC said.
