Money from country's forex reserves was looted: GM Quader

Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader today (October 29, 2022) said the money from the country's forex reserves was looted.

Quader, also deputy leader of the opposition in parliament said Bangladesh is becoming a failed state due to corruption and mismanagement. "IMF, World Bank and Asian Development Bank do not want to give us loans. Because, we have anomalies in our foreign reserve."

The JP leader was speaking at the biannual conference of Jamalpur District Jatiya Party at Mirza Azam Auditorium in Jamalpur.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday said money from the country's forex reserves was being used for development activities, imports, and the people's welfare.

"Even a year ago we had USD 48 billion in the forex reserves. Due to spending from reserves, the amount of money in the reserves will stand at 27 billion once the government starts repaying loans. The country may face severe economic disaster from next year. The reserves have been used to invest in airport projects, Payra seaport, and investments in Sri Lanka. In fact, reserve money has been looted."

He said they had supported Awami League in the 2008 elections to save the country from the corruption of Hawa Bhaban. But Awami League did not keep its word. At first, they thought Jatiya Party as their affiliated organisation, then as a servant, and now as a slave. They want to control everything. "We don't want to be controlled by anyone. We will not be slaves to anyone."

Quader also said a conspiracy has started to weaken Jatiya Party again.

Without mentioning any name, he said "They are trying to split the party and create divisions among us. Torture and injustice has started against us. We will not bow down to any tyranny."

He said, there is no democracy in the country. The people of the country cannot protest. The people of the country want freedom from such misrule. Because there are no democracy and accountability anywhere in the country.
