Ex-SP Babul placed on one-day remand in DSA case

Former superintendent of police Babul Akhter was placed on a one-day remand by a Dhaka court today in a case filed by PBI chief under Digital Security Act.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Arafatul Rakib passed the order after Md Rabiul Islam, an inspector of Dhanmondi Police Station and also the investigation officer of the case, produced him before it with a seven-day remand prayer.

Earlier in the day, Babul Akhter was shown arrested in the case by another court in Dhaka after the same IO submitted an application in this regard.

In the remand prayer, the IO said Babul Akhter along with three others, including fugitive journalist Elias Hossain, were involved with spreading false and baseless information in Mitu murder case, attempting to divert investigation, inciting communalism, and tarnishing PBI's image or Bangladesh Police's image.

Babul was moved to Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj from Feni district jail on Wednesday.
