10-year anniversary of Tazreen tragedy being observed today

Relatives of victims, injured workers and leaders of various labour organisations paid tribute to victims of Tazreen tragedy in front of the factory premises today.

On this day in 2012, over 112 garment workers were killed in a fire at Tazreen Fashion Limited in Savar's Ashulia. Victims of the fire incident have lamented on the long wait for justice and the lack of financial assistance even after 10 years.

Leaders and members of Garments Shramik Sanghati, Textile Garments Workers Federation, Garments Sramik Trade Union Kendra, Bangladesh Sram Institute and Bangladesh Poshak-Sramik Trade Union Federation paid tributes to the victims of the tragedy, reports our Savar correspondent.

Following the tribute, speakers in a short gathering said that even after 10 years of the Tazreen tragedy, compensation of injured workers has not been ensured, the workers have not been rehabilitated, proper treatment has not been provided and the culprits, including the owner of Tazreen Fashion, have not been prosecuted.
