Election meaningless if not participatory, says former CEC

An election is meaningless if it is not participatory, former chief election commissioner Mohammad Abu Hena said today.

"An election is not an election at all if it is not competitive," Hena said while talking at book launching ceremony jointly organised by Shushashoner Jonno Nagorik and Agami Prakashoni at The Daily Star Centre.

Abu Hena said it was the expectation of all to have participatory election in the next national polls, likely to take place in late December next year or early January 2024.

He said the Election Commission should earn everybody's confidence.

"After earning that confidence, they will be able to bring all into the course of elections. This work is immensely important."
