No specific threat centring AL council: DMP commissioner

There is no specific threat from any militant group or any other sources, said Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Khandker Golam Faruq today at a media briefing at Suhrawardy Udyan where the ruling Awami League's 22nd national council will be held tomorrow.

He said the security measures in the area was taken with keeping Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in mind.

"The prime minister has been at risk since long. The grenade attack on August 21, bomb attack in Tungipara are some of the examples. We have considered every aspects and took the security measures," the DMP commissioner told reporters.

While responding to a query, he said, two militants who fled from the court premises recently will not be a threat. "We were able to identify their associates already and have arrested some of them. We will arrest the rest of them soon," he added.

"We are trying to create a festive atmosphere for the AL council," he added.
