Rooppur plant’s commercial operation may be delayed by a year

The commercial operation of the first unit of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant may delay by one year, State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid said today.

The plant may start electricity supply by the end of 2024, which was supposed to begin in December 2023, the state minister said after visiting the power plant.

However, the development of the project is very satisfying, Nasrul said.

"The delay is due to the impact of Covid-19. But we are trying to cover it up," he added. The 1,200MW first unit of the plant has processed 87 percent, he said.
