Chuadanga shivers as mercury drops to 9°C

A mild cold wave is sweeping across Chuadanga, with the temperature in the district dropping to 9°C – the lowest in Bangladesh on Friday.

The people in Chuadanga are experiencing severe cold with frosty winds from the north and dense fog. The low-income people who get by working every day are the worst sufferers. Their daily life is being disrupted by the bone-chilling cold.

Many were seen burning straws on the side of the road to ward off the biting cold. Most people are not going out and are staying home unless there is an emergency.

Meanwhile, the district administration and social organizations are distributing warm clothes to the needy. However, it is not enough compared to the demand.

Amid the harsh winter, the number of diarrhoea and pneumonia patients – mostly children – is increasing in the upazila health complexes.

Zahidul Haque of the Chuadanga met office said a mild cold wave is sweeping across the district. Winter is felt severely due to the foggy environment and frosty air. Low temperatures will persist for a few more days, he said.
