1 die as sand-laden truck rams into autorickshaw in Gaibandha

A woman died and six others were injured when a sand-laden truck rammed into a battery-operated auto-rickshaw in Gobindaganj upazila of Gaibandha this morning.

Gobindaganj Police Station Inspector Bulbul Islam said the incident happened around 10:00 am when a sand-laden truck from Gobindaganj on its way to Mahimaganj lost control and hit the auto-rickshaw, reports our Bogura correspondent.

The deceased and the injured were all reported to be auto-rickshaw passengers.

The deceased was identified as Dulali Begum, 42, of Uttar Solagari village in Gobindaganj upazila.

The injured are Md Manik, 27, of Kheripara village, Shah Alam, 50, of Kalakata village, Lalmia, 35, of Malancha village, Afzal Hossain, 35, of Panchbaria village, Rubel Mia, 38, of Palashbari village and Enamul, 35, of Habibpur village of the upazila, said the police official.

Four of the injured are in critical condition and were referred to different hospitals for better treatment, said Mostaq Ahmed, medical officer of Gobindaganj Upazila Health Complex.

Mokhlesur Rahman of Gobindaganj Fire Service said, "We came to the spot in Sonapara at 10:05 am and found three auto-rickshaw passengers trapped inside. Later, they were rescued and sent to a local hospital."

The rest of the passengers had already been taken to the hospital by the locals, the fire service personnel said.

Police seized the truck but they are yet to find the driver and his assistant.
