Tetulia records season’s lowest temperature at 6.9°C

Tetulia of Panchagarh district recorded the season's lowest temperature in Bangladesh at 6.9°C on Tuesday morning as a mild cold wave is sweeping over parts of the country.

The temperature was recorded in the district at 9am on Tuesday, which is the lowest temperature of this season in the country.

The cold situation has prompted public suffering most for the last few days.

Earlier on Monday, Tetulia recorded the lowest temperature in Bangladesh at 7°C.

Although the fog has been less since Monday evening, the roads are blanketed with thick fog as the night progresses. Along with that, the bone-chilling wind is blowing over the district.

Dew drops are falling like rain all night.

However, on Tuesday morning, although the chilling air is a little less, the roads are covered with thick fog. During the day, vehicles are moving on the highways with their headlights on.

Low-income people are not able to attend work on time in severe winters.

Due to dense fog, farmers fear the loss of various crops including green chilies, maize, boro rice seeds.

However, the agriculture department says that such weather will increase the production of these crops. If it was covered with thick fog day and night, the crops would be damaged.

Meanwhile, the elderly people and children are suffering from various cold-related diseases including diarrhoea, fever-cold, pneumonia. Patients are increasing in district hospitals. Many are being admitted, many are leaving with first aid.

According to the district administration, around 43,000 winter clothes have been distributed from the government and private sector.

The chilling wind blowing over the district since early January and shivering cold will persist in the district. Along with this, the temperature will decrease further in the middle and end of this month, said Roknuzzaman Rokon, observer of Tentulia meteorological observatory centre.
