At least five people, including a child, were killed after a train hit an auto-rickshaw at a level crossing in Tangail's Bhuapur area this noon.
Assistant sub-inspector Fazlul Haque of Tangail Railway Police Outpost confirmed details of the accident.
The ages and identities of the deceased could not be known immediately. They were passengers of the auto-rickshaw, he said.
Parvez Ahmed Porag, emergency medial officer of the hospital, said a child was brought dead at the hospital while five injured were referred to Tangail Sadar Hospital after receiving primary treatment.
Sub-inspector Yakub Ali of Bhuapur Police Station said the level crossing is unauthorised and there was no gateman when the Jamalpur-bound train hit the auto-rickshaw around 12:00noon.
