Five members of a family died in a fire at a house in Mohajonpara under Rangunia upazila in Chattagram in the early hours of Friday.
The deceased are Kangal Bashak, 70, his wife Lalita Bashak, 60, daughter-in-law Lucky Bashak, 32, grandson Sourav Bashak, 12, and granddaughter Chayanika Bashak,4.
Rangunia Fire Station in-charge Kamruzzaman Suman said that they could manage to rescue Kangal’s son Khokon Bashak and take him to Chattagram Medical College Hospital where he is now undergoing treatment.
He said that they received the news at about 2:10am and managed to bring the fire under control at about 4:00am. Five fire-fighting units worked to tame the fire.
The fire service official said that the fire might have originated from the oven of their kitchen.
