Broom procession demands removal of Sarishabari UNO

Locals held a broom procession in front of Jamalpur's Sarishabari municipality building today, demanding immediate removal of the UNO, Upoma Farisha, bringing corruption allegation against her.

At least 1,200 people under the banner of Nagarik Committee brought out the procession at 12:10pm, which was followed by a rally.

At the rally, the speakers warned of tougher movement if the UNO is not removed immediately.

The committee members alleged that the UNO does not release any documents without bribe.

Moreover, documents from local land offices were stolen twice and the UNO office caught fire recently. Later, the committee blamed the UNO, saying that she plotted the theft and fire incidents to remove some documents from the offices.

Upoma Farisha could not be reached over phone for comments, despite repeated attempts.

Contacted, Jamalpur Deputy Commissioner Srabosti Ray said, "I didn't know what actually happened. I will look into the matter."
