Boi Mela: No specific security threats, says DMP commissioner

Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Khandker Golam Faruk today said there is no specific security threat centring Amar Ekushey Book Fair.

"But if any writer or publisher worries about their security or feels threatened, we will keep a watch on them," he said while inspecting security measures at the fair venue.

"Some untoward incidents took place in the past. We have taken three-tier security measures so that no such incident can take place this year," he said.

The DMP chief said they have extended the areas, apart from the fair venue, under CCTV camera coverage.

Visitors have to go through archways to enter the venue at Bangla Academy premises and Suhrawardy Udyan, Faruk said.

They can enter Suhrawardy Udyan venue through the IEB gate on holidays and special days. There will be parking facilities inside the Udyan, he added.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to inaugurate the month-long fair tomorrow.
