Power tariff hiked again

The price of electricity has been further raised at both retail and bulk level.

The new price will be effective from Wednesday, according to a gazette notification issued by the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources on Monday.

According to the gazette, the government has revised the notification issued on January 12, in public interest, to adjust the subsidy as per the section of the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) Act, 2003 (Act No 13 of 2003).

As per the new rates, the price has been increased from Tk3.94 to Tk4.14 per unit at the consumer level.

Besides, the price of electricity for zero to 75 unit users has been increased from Tk4.40 to Tk4.62. And for 76 to 200 unit users it has been increased from Tk6.01 to Tk6.31.

Earlier on January 12, the government increased the retail price of electricity by 5% per unit on average at the consumer level across Bangladesh. It came into effect on January 1.

At the same time, it was mentioned that the retail price of electricity will be regularly adjusted every month.
