A couple were among three drug peddlers arrested with 5.4 kilogrammes of heroin from Gazipur and Naogaon yesterday, Rapid Action Battalion said.
The arrestees are: Shakibur Rahman, 35, his wife Selina Khatun alias Shirin, 38, and their associate Rajia Khatun, 33.
The gang used to smuggle 4-5kg of heroin every month in the country through the border area of Godagari in Rajshahi, said Khandaker Al Moin, Rab's Legal and Media wing director, in a press briefing today.
Shakib and his associate used to supply those to Bogura, Sirajganj, Gazipur, Jamalpur, Narayanganj and Dhaka, the Rab official said.
Shakib is the kingpin of the gang that has 10-12 female members. He used them in transporting drugs to dodge the eyes of law enforcers, Moin added.
He said the peddler used to get Tk 15,000 – Tk 20,000 for successful transaction of each consignment of around 500 grams of heroin.
A team of Rab first seized three kgs of heroin from Shakib and later, based on his information, seized the rest from his wife in Naogaon, the Rab official said.
