Clash between AL front orgs in Manikganj

A clash took place among the leaders and activists of Awami League's front organisations -- Sramik League, Jubo League and Swechchhasebak League -- after they placed wreaths at the Shaheed Minar in Manikganj Sadar upazila today.

At least 10 were injured during the clash, party sources claimed.

Jubo League leaders Nazmul and Pradip Basu, Swechchhasebak League leader Kajal and Sramik League leader Kader are among the injured, reports our Manikganj correspondent.

Witnesses said the clash started between the followers of Sramik League leaders Abdul Jalil and Babul Sarkar around 9:30am. Later, the Jubo League and the Swechchhasebak League also got involved in the fight.

There are two committees of Manikganj district Sramik League. A case over the legality of a committee is now under trial, party sources said.

Abdul Jalil and Babul Sarkar both claim themselves as president of the district Sramik League.

After placing wreaths at the Shaheed Minar, when Babul Sarkar's name was announced as Swechchhasebak League leader, Jalil's people attacked.

Party leaders tried to quell the clashing party men but failed. Police had to intervene to bring the situation under control.

District AL's General Secretary Abdus Salam termed the incident "unexpected" and said disciplinary action would be taken against those who were involved in the clash.

Contacted, Abdur Rouf, officer-in-charge of Kaliganj Police Station, said no complaint was filed in this regard till 1:30pm.
