2 killed as pick-up van hits pedestrians in Dhaka

Two pedestrians were killed and another critically injured as a speeding pick-up van hit them under the Rayerbagh footbridge under Jatrabari police station in Dhaka on Friday morning.

Single names of the deceased could be known as Akbar Hossain, 40, a CNG driver, and Hasan, 30.

The injured who is now undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital is Md Sohel, 35.

Jatrabari Police Station sub-inspector Md Anwar Hossain said that the accident took place at about 6:30am and they rescued the three and took them to DMCH for treatment.

He said that Akbar was declared dead on arrival at DMCH at about 7:00am and Hasan died at about 9:30am while undergoing treatment there.

He, quoting the locals, said that the two pedestrians had been talking to the CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver beside the road when the speeding pick-up van hit them from back.

The police officer said that they seized the pick-up van and arrested its driver and helper.

He said that the bodies were kept at the DMC morgue for post mortem examination.
