3 die as BGB bus collides with pickup van in Cox’s Bazar

Three people were killed and four injured when a bus of Border Guard Bangladesh collided with a pickup van in Chakaria of Cox's Bazar this morning

The deceased were identified as Md Hamid, 32; Jahangir Alam, 25; and Nazrul Islam, 34, reports our Cox's Bazar correspondent.

Eyewitnesses said a Cox's Bazar-bound bus collided head-on with a pickup van around 9:45am at Jangalia gate, a border area between Chakaria of Cox's Bazar and Lohagara of Chattogram district.

Three people died on the spot and all the victims were passengers of the pickup van, they said.

The injured have been admitted to Lohagara Upazila Health Complex.

Meanwhile UNB reports, the accident took place when the pickup van was trying to take over a motorcycle and collided with the bus.

Rubel Alam, a station officer of Lohagara Fire Service and Civil Defence Station, said the bodies were recovered from the spot. Four of the injured have been sent to hospital, he said.

Emon Kanti Chowdhury, officer-in-charge of Chiringa Highway Police Station, confirmed the incident. "Both the vehicles are in our custody. After the legal process, the bodies were handed over to the families."
