Five people were killed and at least 10 injured in an explosion at a steel re-rolling mill in Chattogram's Sitakunda upazila this afternoon.
The blast went off at the oxygen plant of Sheema Automatic Re-Rolling Mills Limited in Kadamrusul area, next to the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway this afternoon.
Md Nurul Alam Dulal, senior station officer of Sitakunda Fire Service, said they recovered three bodies from the spot.
Meanwhile, Md Shahadat Hossain, Sitakunda upazila nirbahi officer, said 10-15 people were injured in the blast.
A person who lives close to the mill, Md Lokman, said he heard a sudden explosion that went off inside the oxygen plant around 4:40pm.
Md Idris, owner of Faria Enterprises near the mill, told that he left his office after hearing the blast and saw some injured persons in front of the plant.
Tofazzel Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Sitakunda Police Station, said on information, a police team rushed to the spot.
