Dhaka College suspends classes until Mar 8 as students of 3 colleges clash

Dhaka College suspended classes until Wednesday as fresh tension grew on Sunday when a student of the college was beaten allegedly by students of other colleges on a sequel on clashes started in February.

Dhaka College principal Mohammad Yusuf issued a notice on Sunday stating that all classes would remain suspended for Monday on unavoidable circumstances while classes also be remained suspended on Tuesday for Shuvo Dol Jatra and Wednesday for Shab-e-Barat.

The decision came several hours after a clash between students of Ideal College, Dhaka College and City College.

On Sunday, a Dhaka College student, Junnur Ain, was beaten up at Science Laboratory crossing. Junnur Ain was rushed to Popular Hospital.

As situation deteriorates, the police dispersed students by using tear gas.

On March 2, nearly a dozen students, teachers and college staff were injured in a clash between students of Dhaka College and Ideal College in the capital’s Central Road area.

The police rushed to Ideal College to control the situation.

In mid-February, another clash broke out between students of City College and Ideal College in Dhaka’s Dhanmondi area, causing a long traffic jam in the city’s Mirpur road.

Ten students from both institutions were detained over the one-hour clash. They were later released to custody of their guardians and college authorities.
