Army officer shot dead in Bandarban

A member of Bangladesh Army was shot to death and two others were injured as hill-based extremist group Kuki-Chin National Army allegedly opened fire on them in a remote area of Rowangchhari in Bandarban on Sunday.

The deceased is Nazim Uddin, a master warrant officer of the army.

The shooting left him dead on the spot at about 1:00pm, said a press release issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations Directorate on Monday.

The press release said that Kuki-Chin Army members ambushed and opened fire on a team of army who had been providing security of a medical team offering health treatments to women and children of the remote areas commemorating the National Children's Day and the Independence Day.

Nazim, who had been serving at the army for 30 years, died on the spot, the release said.

The other injured are now undergoing treatment.

The chief of Bangladesh Army General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed expressed condolence over the death of Nazim.
