Prothom Alo reporter Shams sued under DSA

A Jubo League leader today filed a case under the Digital Security Act against Samsuzzaman Shams, who was picked up by law enforcers from Savar early today.

Syed Golam Kibria, the general secretary of Ward 11 of Dhaka north city unit Jubo League, filed the case with Tejgaon Police Station around 2:15am.

The complainant accused him of publishing a false and fabricated report in the daily Prothom Alo, according to the case document, a copy of which obtained.

Shams, a reporter of Bangla daily Prothom Alo, was picked up from his home in Savar by officials of Criminal Investigation Department in plainclothes early today, said a police official who accompanied the CID team.

Raju Mondol, a sub-inspector of Ashulia Police Station who accompanied the law enforcers, confirmed that a CID team from Dhaka picked up Shams from his home in Ambagan area near the Jahangirnagar University (JU) campus.

However, CID's spokesperson Azad Rahman told that he was yet to get any information in this regard.

Later today, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan said Shams was arrested in a case filed against him over a report published on the country's Independence Day.
