NSU student dies as lorry hits motorcycle in Lalbagh

A final-year student of North South University died early this morning around three hours after the motorcycle she was riding pillion on was hit by a lorry at Lalbagh's Beribadh in Dhaka last night.

The deceased was identified as Sanjida Akter Tamanna, 27.

She had used a ride-sharing app for the journey on the motorcycle, police said.

After the accident around 10:00pm yesterday, Sanjida was taken to a local hospital from where she was shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), according to MM Morshed, officer-in-charge (OC) of Lalbagh Police Station.

She was declared dead by the DMCH around 1:00am today, the OC said.

Police detained the driver of the lorry and also seized the vehicle, the police official said.

Sanjida, daughter of Abu Taher from Sonaimuri upazila of Noakhali, had been living in Kamrangirchar area of the capital, the OC said.

The body has been kept at the DMCH morgue for autopsy.
