Bangabazar Market fire: 5 fall sick from inhaling smoke

At least five people fell sick while trying to extinguish the massive fire that broke out at Bangabazar Market earlier today.

Among them, a firefighter identified as Didarul Islam is now undergoing treatment at Government Employee Hospital while four people identified as Rubel of Lakshmipur, Niloy (22) of Feni, Ripon (36) of Chandpur and Shaheen (38) of Munshiganj are now taking treatment at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.

At least 48 firefighting units are still working to bring the fire under control as five hours have elapsed.

All battalions of RAB in Dhaka, 18 patrolling RAB teams from Narayanganj, and six teams of plainclothes policemen joined in to bring the blaze at Bangabazar Market under control.

They joined to help the firefighters in taming the massive fire, traffic management, and to keep the law and order situation under control.

The fire broke out at the market around 6:10 am and spread soon, said Anwarul Islam, warehouse inspector of Fire Service and Civil Defence headquarters.

However, what caused the fire could not be known immediately.

A team of Army personnel rushed to the spot and are trying to douse the flame, said ISPR.

Besides, a helicopter of Bangladesh Air Force is being used to bring the fire under control.

A team of Bangladesh Navy also joined in to bring the Bangabazar market fire under control.
