Rokia Afzal Rahman dies at Singapore hospital

Rokia Afzal Rahman, renowned entrepreneur and the chairperson of Mediaworld Ltd, the owning company of the Daily Star, passed away on Wednesday morning.

She was 82.

She died while undergoing treatment at the Mt Elizabeth Novena Hospital in Singapore, said the family.

Rokia is survived by two daughters and a son.

Her body will be flown back to Bangladesh on Thursday evening, her family members said.

Active in business till her demise, Rokia was also director shareholder of Mediastar, and a shareholder director of ABC Radio.

She was also a former advisor to a caretaker government.

She was founding president of the Bangladesh Federation of Women Entrepreneurs.
