3 suffer bullet wounds in Narayanganj clash between 'drug peddlers'

Three people suffered bullet wounds in clashes between two groups of alleged drug traders in Narayanganj's Rupganj.

The clashes started yesterday evening in Chanpara area and continued till this morning, witnesses said.

They also said the clashes took place between two groups of drug peddlers over establishing supremacy in the area.

Two of the injured are Samrat Parvez, 21, and Roman, 18, while the other injured is 17 years old. All three are receiving treatment at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Md Alauddin, a doctor of the emergency ward at DMCH said the 17-year-old's condition is critical with bullet wounds in the upper thigh, while Samrat and Ruman were shot in the leg.The injured claimed that they are factory workers and suffered bullet wounds as they were passing by when two groups locked in a clash and opened fire in the morning.

Abir Hossain, senior assistant superintendent (Rupganj-Araihazar Circle) of police said some people were injured during the clash. The situation is under control now with the deployment of additional police members.

Several local residents a clash broke out after iftar on Tuesday over the control of illegal drug trade in the area.

During this time, the two sides clashed with firearms and sharp weapons. Around 8:00am today, they locked in a clash again, resulting in the three being shot, said locals.
