Fire at warehouse in Dhaka's Nawabpur brought under control

The fire service has brought under control a fire that broke out at a tin-shed warehouse in the Suritola area of Nawabpur, Dhaka, late Thursday.

Fourteen firefighting units managed to tame the blaze at about 11:45pm.

They first rushed to the spot after being informed about the fire at 10:08pm, Shahjahan Sikder, deputy assistant director (media cell) of the Fire Service and Civil Defence, said.

"Locals alerted the fire service after thick smoke started billowing out from Ayub Bhaban beside Nawabpur Tower," he added.

The cause of the fire could not be known immediately and no casualties were reported at the time of writing.

Army troops had been deployed to battle the fire, the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) directorate said.

Similar incidents in Dhaka and other parts of the country have raised concerns about fire safety, with a massive fire burning to the ground the Bangabazar wholesale clothing market on April 4.
