People pay their final respects to Dr Zafrullah at Gonoshasthaya Kendra in Savar

Individuals from various backgrounds gathered in Savar on Friday morning to pay their final tributes to freedom fighter and Gonoshasthaya Kendra founder, Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury.

At approximately 9am, the body of Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury was transported from Gonoshasthaya Samaj Vittik Medical College to the premises of the Gonoshasthaya PHA field.

Gonoshasthaya Kendra employees, volunteers, medical college officers and Gono Bishwabidyalay teachers and students started gathering to pay their last respect at around 10am.

Community members, union representatives, upazila administration officials and members of various organizations also assembled there to pay their respects.

Numerous individuals became emotional as they tearfully said their goodbyes to the valiant freedom fighter.

Tributes will be offered to the late Zafrullah until the Jummah prayers.

Following the prayers, his namaz-e-janaza will be conducted at the same location. Subsequently, he will be laid to rest at the Savar Gonoshasthaya Kendra.

Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury breathed his last at Gonoshasthaya Nagar Hospital late Tuesday.

Zafrullah was transported to Gonoshasthaya Nagar Hospital in Dhanmondi, Dhaka, after becoming seriously ill on April 5.

A medical board of notable physicians was formed on April 7 for his treatment.

He was put on life support on Monday after his condition deteriorated.

The noted physician had also been politically active for the past few years, although he was relatively inactive in politics this year.

He is survived by his wife, son, daughter and scores of well-wishers.
