A fire broke out at New Super Market in the capital this morning. Thirty units of fire service are working to control the fire.
Confirming the matter, Deputy Assistant Director of Fire Service, Shajahan Sikder, told The Daily Star the fire was reported at the market at 5:40am.
Firefighting units of the Army, Navy, and Air Force, reached the spot to assist the fire service, according to ISPR.
Meanwhile, 12 platoons of BGB and 12 patrol teams of Rab have been deployed in the area to assist the fire service and control the law-and-order situation, according to Rab and BGB's media wing sources.
Traders rushed to the market after hearing the news of the fire. They tried to get their goods out of the market. Many broke down in tears when they saw their shops burning.
The cause of the fire could not be known immediately, Fire Service Control Room Duty Officer Ershad Sikder said, adding that no casualties have been reported so far.
This is the second major fire incident at a market in the capital in the last two weeks.
On April 3, a deadly fire burned the Bangabazar Shopping Complex to the ground.
