Accidents & Fires Shopping malls in New Market area resume operation

A day after the fire incident at New Super Market, all the nearby markets, including New Market, Chandrima and Gausia, resumed trading today.

Traders started opening their shops since 10:00am today.

President of Bangladesh Shop Owners Association, Helal Uddin, confirmed that all markets, except for the New Super Market, have resumed operations.

"The markets were closed yesterday as traffic movement were halted in the area due to the fire. However, with the roads are now open, traders can continue their businesses without hindrance." he said.

New Market, Chandrima, Gausia,The Dhanmondi Hawkers' Market, Nehar Bhaban, Globe, Badruddoja, Nur Mansion, Ismail Mansion, Subastu, Eastern Mallika are among the shopping malls that were closed due to the fire.

Trading at around 42 markets were suspended in the area following the fire at New Super market, sources at Bangladesh Shop Owners Association said.

Shopkeepers were seen cleaning their shops and taking preparation to serve the customers.
