Cumilla train crash: Railway suspends 3 staffers

Bangladesh Railway has suspended three of its staffers over yesterday's accident involving Sonar Bangla Express.

Shariful Alam, deputy chief information officer of the Railways Ministry confirmed the development to The Daily Star.

The staffers are Abdul Quader, a guard; Jasim Uddin, the train's locomaster; and Md Mohsin, assistant locomaster of the train, he said.

The Dhaka-bound Sonar Bangla Express hit a freight train at Nangalkot of Cumilla causing seven carriages and the locomotive to derail last evening.

At least 30 people were injured and five of them were in serious condition, said Jashim Uddin Chowdhury, officer-in-charge of Laksham Railway Police Station.
