A councillor of Nilphamari's Domar municipality died after his motorcycle was hit by a truck last night on the Domar-Jaldhaka highway.
Rubel Islam, 33, was the son of Late Babulur Rahman of Chikanmati Dhonipara village. He was the councillor of ward 7 of the municipality and the disaster management secretary of upazila unit Awami Swechchhasebak League.
Officer-in-Charge of Jaldhaka Police Station Firoz Kabir confirmed the incident to our local correspondent.
Meanwhile, according to deceased's family sources, Rubel's mother-in-law also died on the same night after suffering cardiac arrest.
Quoting eyewitnesses, the OC said the accident happened near Nawabganj haat on the Domar-Jaldhaka highway around 9:00pm when Rubel was going to neighbouring Jaldhaka upazila town on his motorcycle.
An overloaded truck hit his bike from the opposite direction, killing him on the spot, the OC said.
Being informed, Jaldhaka police reached the spot and recovered the dead body, said the OC, adding that the dead body was sent to Nilphamari General Hospital for autopsy.
He added that they were trying to track down the truck and its driver.
