Four women died after being hit by a train while walking along railway tracks in Kalihati upazila of Tangail early today.
The deceased were identified as Bashonti, 60, Aroti Rani Das, 55, Shanti Rani, 45, and Shilpi Rani, 28, of Bhuapur upazila of the district, reports our local correspondent quoting Nazmul Hasan, sub-inspector of Bangabandhu Bridge East Police Station.
Nazmul Hasan said the incident took place in Mirhamjani area of Salla Union under Kalihati upazila around 5:30am today.
"All four were walking on tracks. They were killed on the spot when the Dhaka-bound Ekota Express train hit them," the SI said.
Police are working to recover the bodies, the SI added.
Relatives of the deceased said the victims were going to the upazila's Salla union.
