10 bodies recovered from fishing trawler near Cox’s Bazar coast

At least 10 decomposed bodies were recovered from a fishing trawler that capsized in the Bay of Bengal two to three weeks ago and was dragged to Cox’s Bazar Coast on Sunday.

Cox’s Bazar Police Station officer-in-charge Rafiqul Islam said that the fishing trawler was brought to the coast at Nazira point near Cox’s Bazar airport on early Sunday.

Fire Service and Civil Defence deputy assistant director Shahjahan Sikder said that the fishing trawler that went missing in the bay two to three weeks ago was dragged to the coast by unidentified people.

A rescue team of the fire service, receiving the news that people were noticing hands and legs of human beings in the affected trawler, rushed to Nazira point and recovered decomposed bodies of 10 people from the trawler, he said.

He said that they ended the rescue operation at about 3:45pm.

Police officials said that they assumed that the fishermen who had been returning to Cox’s Bazar coast from deep sea might have noticed the affected trawler and dragged it to the coast.
