Three people killed drinking toxic liquor in Kushtia

Three people died reportedly after drinking toxic liquor in Kushtia on early Monday.

The deceased are Shahin Islam, 47, a resident of Kushtia sadar upazila, Md Raton, 21, resident of village Boro Ailchara of Mirpur upazila, and Sifat Ullah, 27, a resident of Bheramara upazila in the district.

According to the sources of Kushtia General Hospital and police, six people, including the trio, reportedly consumed toxic alcohol on Sunday night at different places in the district.

Later, they got sick.

Local people took them to Kushtia General Hospital for treatment.

Shahin, Raton and Sifat Ullah died while undergoing treatment at the hospital on early Monday, Kushtia General Hospital’s resident medical officer Tapos Kumar said.

They died for taking excessive toxic alcohol, he said, adding that three others were now taking treatment at the hospital.

On information, a team of police recovered the bodies from the hospital and sent those to the hospital morgue for post-mortem examinations, Kushtia police station officer-in-charge Shahadat Hossain said.

They were looking into the matter, the OC added.
